It has been noted by several planar
travelers that religion in the world of A'danis is
dissimilar to that of most worlds. Religion, and
divinity, is everywhere. Yet the common person
does not focus on it: many people do not even
incorporate it into their daily lives. Those that
are religious though, have plenty of reason to be so.
With the over-abundance of divine magic one need not
hope there are gods, one simply knows.
Though exact contact has never been made
with the gods by any planar travelers, it appears that
the gods of A'danis are different than the gods of
seemingly all other worlds. The gods of other
worlds, godly or not, exhibit very human like traits.
They often war with each other and give in to petty
whims. Here, it would seem the gods are truly
above such mortal actions. Although war and strife
in the name of the gods is not unheard of, the gods
themselves do not war, or seemingly even fight, amongst
themselves. This may be explained by local myth:
it is believed the gods came to this place and fashioned
the world together. When the world was created,
the gods held a council to decide who would be the
steward of what basic principals. Such unity is
seemingly unheard of in other godly beings....
Research is nowhere near complete on
these paragons of godliness, though I present to you the
research of historians and theologians thus far:

Mechanics note: The preceding text has one effect
on characters and character creation. The gods
have no alignment, and as such, any alignment cleric can
worship any god, and any god can have a paladin. |
The Gods |
Athsambel:
Of The Seven, as the gods are most often referred to, Athsambel
is one of two that is portrayed and personified as
feminine. It is uncertain as to whether the gods
are actually represent able as male or female, no one
cares too much.
Immediately after creating the world,
the gods visited that which they made. After
learning of the Primals, The Seven went about
designating stewards of worldly matters. Athsambel,
being the oldest and wisest, was designated the steward
of the forces embodied by the Primals. If any of
The Seven were to be called the leader, it would most
certainly be Athsambel.
Athsambel's most common worshipers are druids, rangers,
and any who revere the basic elements. Any who
practice some form of magic give some form of
recognition to Athsambel, the steward of their practice. |

Liche: The
Lord of Secrets and Keeper of Knowledge. When The
Seven divided the world and its governance, Liche was
the obvious choice for steward of death. Liche had
died before, and subsequently been brought back to life.
This experience granted Liche a knowledge
no other member of The Seven could match. As such,
he became the guide to knowledge. Although most
practitioners of magic acknowledge Athsambel as the
goddess of all magics, those who actively study and seek
greater understanding of the intricacies of magic, such
as wizards and archivists, often worship Liche.
This worship by most seekers of
knowledge is where the name lich comes from: some
say it is a mockery of The Lord of Secrets' name and
some say it is a nod of respect to the god. Maybe
we will never know.... |

Vanenth:
Vanenth and Labelris can best eb described as brothers.
As the roles were handed out, the last of the roles fell
to these two. Being very similar in build and
mindset, it was left to a proverbial drawing of straws
to see who would lord over what.
Each greatly values strength, though it
is a question of just how each uses it. Whereas
Labelris guides people to protect others with their
strength, Vanenth wishes each man to test the limits of
his own strength, regardless of the cost to others. |

Ageocia:
Although Athsambel is the steward of the basic elements
of the world, and seemingly all of existence, Ageocia is
the protector of the natural world. Although many
druids and rangers worship Athsambel for her role in
allowing all things to exist, most worship Ageocia for
protecting and embodying the natural world. |

Sammorum: Though Inas is
the youngest of The Seven, you would never know it.
Sammorum is the child and free-spirit of the group.
Upon the first visit to A'danis, Sammorum immediately
left the other six and simply travelled. He had
travelled the whole world before the other six had even
moved on from the first island. His knowledge of
the world, and unending desire to explore it, made him
the lord of travel.During
Sammorum's travels it was by no means skill-at-arms or
wit which ensured his survival. Tales abound of
harrowing brushes with death in which his life was saved
by naught more than luck. Though at the same time,
there are still songs sung in most taverns of the tricks
he used to live as well.
Every bard and rogue works to emulate
his life (and many halflings as well). |

Inas: Inas is the only
other "female" among The Seven. Where Athsambel
was chosen for her important role because she was oldest
and wisest, Inas was chosen for her "charge" because she
was youngest. It was felt that the extreme
conflicting nature of good and evil would be better
handled by one who was younger, fuller of vigor and
life. The Choice of The Seven nearly drove Inas
mad.It took many years for Inas
to come to grips with her madness, during which time she
nearly took control of chaos. Eventually Inas came
to accept her charge, though she has changed. Gone
is the vibrant and youthful goddess; now Inas is a dark
and somber goddess, plagued by the duality of her
existence. |

Labelris: It is said that
those who follow knighthood and paladinhood are given
guidance by Labelris, even if it is very subtle.
Labelris embodies all it is to be faithful, be it to a
god or a cause. Not everyone can be strong, and
Labelris is strong for those who cannot be strong for
themselves. Most governments call on Labelris for
order, and almost all oaths are sworn in his name. |

The Primals |
It is said, that when the gods created the
world, something that none of them knew happened.
Upon their first visit to this world of their creation
the gods found several beings already there; the Primals.
So that the world would be complete like many other
worlds, the gods wanted all the elements and magics
present. Thus, they connected the world to the
elemental planes.
Something about this connection
somehow created these beings, who are embodiments of the
"primal forces." As of now, there are five known
Primals, (Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Magic) though it
is believed that more may exist. The Primals may
be more powerful than the gods themselves, and do not
need or care about worshippers.
It is speculated that it is not
possible to kill the primals, or that if you do, they
only rebirth as if never killed....though it is also
speculated that to kill a Primal would tear the
foundations of our world, so even attempting to do so is
frowned upon.
The Primals are the sires of the
Titans for sure, though it is possible that they are the
progenitors of several other races as well. |
